Everything You Need To Dress Like A French Woman
I have exciting news, everything you need to dress like the a French woman is hanging right in your closet! Don’y believe me? Would you believe Vogue Paris? Of course you would and wouldn’t you know that’s exactly where I got this list? Now you may not have all eight pieces currently in your wardrobe, but I’m willing to bet you have at least a few, and that’s all you need for your own French Girl Summer.
Romantic Blouse
I realize “romantic” can be subjective; one woman’s dozen roses is another woman’s spit in my mouth, so I’ll get a little more specific. Think lightweight gauzy fabrics, delicate touches of embroidery, puff shoulders, a sweet neckline, you get the deal.
Straw Hat
You have to have a neutral colored straw hat kicking around, right? And even if you don’t you can grab one inexpensive enough from Target, Marshalls, et cetera.
Boyfriend Shirt
By “boyfriend shirt” I mean a loose, oversized button down, not a ratty band tee or hoodie. To get that real tres French woman vibe, undo an extra button and show a little lacy bralette.
Elegantly Cut Black Swimsuit
No offense to the less than elegantly cut black swimsuits, but this is not your moment. If you’re going for the French Girl Summer look stick to a classic, elegant black one or two piece, NO TANKINIS.
Denim Shorts
Ok now I know we all have a pair of denim shorts, some of us may even have a whole drawer dedicated to denim shorts of various styles, lengths, and hems. To look like a true French femme, think more Jeanne Damas than Daisy Duke when styling.
Basket Bag
Because I am a kind and generous person, I will give some leeway than Vogue Paris on this one, but I’m also not French so take it with a grain of salt I guess. Anyhoo, I think any sort of woven bag counts, straw, raffia, rattan, jute; tote, clutch, crossbody, mini; I’m counting them all.
Gold Statement Earrings
Another instance in which I’m a little more easygoing! Vogue Paris recommends a beautiful pair of $330 sculptural gold earrings, I recommend anything big, gold, and beautiful. I think hoops work!
Espadrilles
Is there a shoe that screams “summer” louder than the espadrille? Nope! Espadrilles are such a summer staple that I would be shocked if any woman of any age didn’t have a pair floating around her closet. But just in case you don’t, they are almost always on sale at J.Crew and J.Crew Factory.
