September Is The New January
What is it about September that makes me want to get my life in order?
Maybe it’s the fact that I’m not waking up in a puddle of sweat anymore (at least until a fall heatwave hits), or the kiddos all going back to school? Or maybe it’s just three months of summer gluttony finally catching up with me? Any way you slice, every September I’m motivated to take the proverbial bull by the horns and attack life.
I’m going to save money! I’m going to meal prep! I’m going to hit the gym every day! I’ll never let my gas tank tip below half full ever again! I’m going to clean out my closet and sell my clothes on Poshmark! I’m going to finally get those pants tailored! I’m going to become a minimalist!
Ok I obviously every September comes and goes, and I do exactly none of that…and then I tell myself I’m a failure who can’t even complete the simple goal of selling a cardigan on Poshmark, which is not great self talk! Maybe instead of the lofty goal of a complete life overhaul this September, I cut myself a little slack. I concentrate on being a little better about mindless spending, a little more consistent with treating my body the way it deserves, and maybe just don’t run out of gas. Maybe the real goal for September is moving past my feast or famine mentality, and concentrate on true balance.
