I Don’t Do New Years Resolutions, Unless They’re Style Resolutions
You know what the most popular resolutions are? Eat better and go to the gym, BORING! And do you know when those resolutions are broken? February. That’s right, most resolutions only last a month, which is why in general, I don’t do them. But this year I’m making an exception, for style resolutions. And while they are my style resolutions, I think they’re resolutions most of could benefit from. So feel free to adopt them for yourself!
Don’t Chase Trends
At (almost) 43 years old I am way too old to blindly chase trends. Trends and micro trends are in and out at a breakneck speed. I swear to God a popular lifestyle website I read told me clogs* were in and then out in a span of three weeks. THREE WEEKS! Is three weeks the lifecycle of a trend now? Because I am not into that level of literal fast fashion. Now I’m not saying I’m packing it in and heading to Chicos (no offense, Chicos), but I don’t have the energy, desire, or funds to participate in every trend and micro trend that comes down the pipeline.
Wear What You Love
Should be a no-brainer, right? But how many times have you gotten dressed and thought “this is fine” or “this will do”? I have! I’ve said it a million times and 2023 I’m going to say it a hell of a lot less.
Get Rid Of What Doesn’t Fit
If it doesn’t fit you must acquit, and by “acquit” I mean get rid of it. There is nothing more frustrating than opening up your closet and being faced with mostly clothes that don’t fit, especially if everything is too small. We deserve to open up our closets and have options on options. I know we hold onto things and tell ourselves we’ll fit into them soon enough, but if you don’t fit into it now it shouldn’t be taking up valuable space in your wardrobe.
Remember They’re Just Clothes
I love clothes. Love putting outfits together. And I love getting dressed. But sometimes, more times than I care to admit, I get stressed out about clothes. Something doesn’t fit right, or the outfit I put together doesn’t look like I thought it would, and it sends me into a tizzy. In those moments I need to remind myself that it’s only clothes, nothing worth stressing out over.
Is anyone else making style resolutions for 2023?
*I bought into the clog trend anyway, HARD.
