Wearing Colored Tights Is Easy When You Know How

The strangest thing happens when I wear an outfit with colored tights. Someone will almost always tell me “I love those tights, I wish I could wear them”. I respond with some version of “of course you can wear them” which is met with some version of “oh no, I could never do such colorful tights”. Guys, it’s happened enough to inspire me to write this post. Let me shout loud enough for everyone to hear WEARING COLORED TIGHTS IT EASIER THAN YOU THINK!

Ok, now that that’s out of my system, lets talk strategy. The toughest part of wearing colored tights, literally and metaphorically, is putting them on. Physically, tights are a battle to put on, especially if you just moisturized your legs. There is nothing more humbling than fighting with a pair of tights in a crowded gym locker room, believe me. Emotionally and spiritually, putting on something so colorful can make us feel self-conscious. My first tip for overcoming the colored tights imposter syndrome is just suck it up and put them on. Try Them Under Pants For Newbies

If you’re looking to just dip a toe into the colored tights waters, might I suggest wearing them under pants? It’s a way to wear bright tights without being like “OH WOW YOU’RE WEARING SOME BRIGHT TIGHTS”. They’re also an extra layer of warmth for those days it’s friggin freezin (IDK where you are, but here in Boston it’s going to be 22 degrees tomorrow so tights are going under everything).

I love this outfit. On paper, the pieces might not sound like they go together. An over-sized black denim jacket, white and yellow print mini dress, purple tights; but they are perfect. A masterclass in opposites attract.
