Don’t Believe The Hype, Wardrobe Must Haves You Don’t Need

Ok that is an exaggeration, but it seems like everyone and their mother has a list of items you simply need in your closet, and spoiler alert, I don’t have a lot of them. Yup, I do not own these universally agreed upon “must have” and you know? I’m just fine…

White Button Down

Am I the only person in the world who doesn’t own a white button down? Possibly! There is something very cater waiter, to me, about a solid white button down. If I do someday purchase one, it will probably be of the silky variety, just so no one asks me where their chicken divan is.

Black Pencil Skirt

In my previous life, with a traditional office job, I had a black pencil skirt! Come to think of it, I had two. After I transitioned careers, I gave them both to GoodWIll, and hopefully they made it to a loving home. I love the look of pencil skirts, but they just don’t fit into my life right now.

Little Black Dress

Sorry LBD hive, but I’m out. All that black is tough for me to pull off, and there is no event that a little black dress and only a little black dress works for. I have a gorgeous, if I do say so myself, navy blue dress works much better for me. All hail the LND, the little navy dress.

Riding Boots

We’ve all probably had a pair of riding boots at one point or another, and I’ll probably have another pair again some day; but they’re just so painfully basic.

Trench Coat

I have to admit, I’m shocked I don’t have a trench coat. I’m a coat hoarder, and it’s probably the only style of coat I don’t currently have…maybe they remind me of flashers? IDK, but if there’s anything on this list I’m going to end up buying, it’s probably a trench coat.

Basic/Neutral Cardigan

This was a new one I came across in my research. I don’t remember a “light weight” neutral cardigan being a must have, but I swear everything I read about wardrobe must haves from the past few years included it so here we are. I’m not really into a light weight cardi, I want a cozy cardi that acts as a blanket when I lie on the couch all weekend.

Ballet Flats

Ballet flats are probably the only things on this list I have strong feelings about, I absolutely hate them. I think they are ugly, unflattering, and instead of adding to an outfit, they takes it down about a dozen notches. And they’re not even comfortable! If you want to do flats there are so many better options.
