How To Transition Outfits From Winter To Spring
Who else is exited for spring?! Ok, I know all of you are because we have seriously had so little to look forward to over the last year, and as they say, “hope SPRINGS eternal”. That was terrible and I apologize. Ok, now that that’s out of the way, lets talk clothes. When the weather FINALLY starts to warm up, we all can’t wait to ditch our parkas for sundresses, but being that I live in New England, it’s still cold well into April and even May. Also there is something so sad and tragic about a grown ass woman in her head to toe summer finest the first day above fifty degrees, act like you’ve been there before!
Transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle. That is to say you can’t go whole hog spring clothes as soon as St. Patrick’s Day hits, you need to ease into it. You need to seamlessly segue from winter to spring, and I have seven tips to help.
Mix And Match Your Winter And Spring Pieces
Blend the seasons together! Introduce your winter clothes to your spring clothes and let them mingle a bit. Boots with dresses, sweaters with spring skirts, long sleeves or even a turtleneck under a slip dress, basically just try your heavier winter fabrics and textures with a light airy spring fabric and textures or go with spring colors in winter pieces. Easy Peasy.
More White
Spare me with the no white before Memorial Day BS. A healthy dose of white breathes life into your outfit, or “fit” as the kids say. It symbolizes birth, renewal, life – and after the year we’ve all had we could use a little renewal. Put them white jeans on, girl!
Put Away The Winter Patterns
Remember when I said to wear a sweater with a skirt? Well make sure that sweater isn’t a fair isle, or have a snowflake or a moose or anything. Put away anything overtly winter.
Bust Out The Colors
A lot of us just naturally shift to darker colors in the winter, probably to sync with the dwindling sunlight and the ever-present darkness in our hearts. To spring up your wardrobe inject some color! Whether you go with brights, like this seasons “it” color bubble gum pink, or easter pastels, colors will instantly aid in your winter to spring transition.
Show Some Skin
And by “show some skin” I mean lower calf and upper wrist, not quite short shorts time yet! Remember it’s all about easing yourself, and your pasty skin, into spring. Baby step with cropped pants, midi skirts, and three quarter length sleeves.
Incorporate Florals
I know, I know, no duh. Not exactly groundbreaking stuff, but flowers are synonymous with spring; so wear some florals why don’t ya.
Swap Your Shoes
Little white sneaks, booties, mules, clogs, backless loafers; take a break from the dark heavy footwear of winter! I do insist that you paint your piggies and take a cheese grater to your crusty heels before you unleash them on the world though.
Now go forth and dress up!
