The Single Best Thing I Did For My Skin
If you know me, you know I can be a bit of a skincare product whore. I’ll try almost anything, as long as it isn’t an MLM product. Since turning 40 I’ve not only amped up my product research, but I’m also just paying a lot closer attention to my skin. After almost two years of diligent work, I did it, I found the single product that has had the most noticeable effect on my skin, makeup wipes.
Or more specifically, quitting makeup wipes. We’ve all been told makeup wipes are not the best for our skin, but how bad can they really be? Bad enough to give up the ease of swiping off my Tammy Faye layers of makeup? Bad enough to give up the satisfaction of looking down and seeing ALLLLL the makeup I just removed? It can’t be! Except, maybe it is? I committed to going without makeup wipes and washing my face the old-fashioned way for two weeks. I figured either there wouldn’t be much of a difference and I could go right back to my giant Costco pack of Neutrogena wipes, or my skin would look so good I’d never want to touch a makeup wipe again.
It kills me to say this, because I really, really was hoping I wouldn’t notice a difference, because I really, really love makeup wipes, but after two weeks my skin was the best it’s looked in years, YEARS! I hoped it was a fluke so went back to using makeup wipes a couple nights a week, and my skin looked worse, it sucked.
I don’t know why I am so lazy when it comes to washing my face, but I hate it! Heather Foley of the twelve step skincare routine, Heather Foley of the chin masks and ice roller, Heather Foley of hitting her face with electro currents, is too lazy to wash her face. As much as I hate it, the evidence speaks for itself. Ditching makeup wipes had more of an impact than any of the skincare products or tools I’ve tried, so I guess I have to quit them forever…unless I’m drunk, then any makeup removal at all is a blessing, or if I’m at the gym, or if I’m like really tired.
