The Best Things I Watched

March 1, 2021Heather

I will be the first to admit you should not take my advice about a lot of things. Money, relationships, education, real estate; all things you should not listen to me about. But what to watch? That’s my wheelhouse, baby.

I pride myself at being a top notch tv watcher; a savvy streamer. And as good as I am at consuming television for myself, I am also excellent at making recommendations. I figured at the end of each month I’d share some of the best tv, streaming, and movies I watched, so lets get to it.

Ted Lasso, Apple TV

I’ve been preaching the gospel according to Ted Lasso for a while now. For so long, in fact, you may be asking yourself “Heather, have you seriously not finished that show yet?”. The answer is, no I have not finished it yet. I’m rationing it out like nylon during World War II because I want to wait as little time as possible between finishing season one and starting season two. Ted Lasso is hilarious, the performances are incredible (I mean Juno Temple going from Dirty John to Ted Lasso? Iconic), and it’s a rare special show that makes me want to be a better person. I’m not saying I’ve become a better person, but it makes me want to be one, and that’s the first step.

Barb and Star Go to Del Mar, various streaming platforms

This movie is not for everyone. I repeat, this movie is not for everyone, but this movie is for me. Barb and Star was the dumbest, weirdest, most surreal hour and forty seven minutes I’ve spent since I don’t even know when, maybe ever, and I loved every second of it. Barb and Star take a vacation of a lifetime and I can’t really explain this movie any more, or profess my love without venturing into spoiler territory. I will say this, come for the Jamie Dornan song and dance, stay for the cameos. Also don’t google it because it will ruin the best cameo.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta: What Happened in the Dungeon?, Bravo

Bolo, Bolo, Bolo, where do I even begin? I haven’t been watching this season, something about a fifty-something year old woman whining about her indoor, 250 person Cover super spreader wedding just doesn’t sit well with me, but I had to dip back in for Bolo and thank God I did. In this episode of RHOA we go on Cynthia’s bachelorette party and all hell breaks loose. Well maybe not all hell, but an orgy breaks loose. From the Basic Instinct editing, to the Clue-like whodunit of the morning after, to Marlo catching a freakin shark, this episode had it all and gave me everything I didn’t know I needed.

Girls Trip, various streaming platforms

I stumbled across the very beginning of Girls Trip a couple weeks ago and told myself I’d only watch till Tiffany Haddish breaks the wine bottle (my favorite part). Of course I ended up watching the whole movie, and the first half of it again because FX played it twice in a row. I’ve watched this movie about a dozen times but it really hit different after a year of social isolation. Guys, Girls Trip made me bawl my eyes out. Watching the Flossy Posse tear up New Orleans made me realize how much I miss going out with my girlfriends. As soon as I vaccinated I’m buying denim vest and whooping it up.

Sour Grapes, various streaming platforms

You know me, you know I love true crime and my murder shows, but sometimes it’s nice to watch something a little more low stakes. And in this case “low stakes” means multi million dollar wine fraud. Sour Grapes tells the tale of Rudy Kurniawan, a real faker McGee who was able to infiltrate the bizarre world of rare wine bros and scam them to hell and back. It’s worth mentioning these rare wine bros are a real motley crew, yikes. This is far from a feel good story, but the joy I got watching someone who nicknamed himself Hollywood Jeff be told his priceless wine is swill? Chefs kiss.

I Care a Lot, Netflix

I feel like when we see a severe bob we know shit is gonna go DOWN. And no bob is blunter than Rosamund Pike’s in I Care a Lot. Rosamund plays Marla Grayson, a court appointed guardian who takes every last cent from the elderly people in her care. If I had any money or possessions I would be worried about my twilight years. Everyone in I Care a Lot is fantastic, and after watching it I only have one question, why isn’t Diane Wiest in more stuff? That terrible HBO Max movie with Meryl Streep doesn’t count. Did you watch that? It was so BAD and I can’t stop thinking about deep vein thrombosis.

Alright guys, there they are in no particular order, the best things I watched in February. I’m already working on my March batch of watches, so stay tuned and happy watching!
