How To Use Social Media To Find Your Personal Style

August 17, 2024Heather

Let’s talk about how to use social media to find your personal style…

Are you in a style rut? Hate everything in your closet? Feel absolutely uninspired every morning to get dressed? I’ve got the remedy for your style woes, your phone. That’s right, we’re going to turn your phone into your own personal style guru. I know, I know, it sounds like something your teenage daughter might do, but stick with me. There are so many fashionable, grown-ass women out in the world, and social media is how you find them. So let’s get to it!

Find Your People

The first step is to find your people. We’re not talking about your childhood bully who’s now knee-deep in a pyramid scheme, or your married high school crush you should absolutely not be swapping flirty FB messages with, but a group of online “friends” who share your style aesthetic…or the aesthetic you aspire to. Maybe you’re a minimalist, a boho goddess, or classic preppy, or maybe you’re a little bit of everything! Whatever your vibe, there’s a corner of the internet for you. Follow and engage with accounts that inspire you, and the algorithm gods will reward you with MORE accounts to stimulate your style.

Experiment, Without The Risk

Social media can be like a virtual dressing room. You can “try on” different styles without spending a dime. Check out fashion bloggers and influencers who are similar to you in age, body type, and even lifestyle. Pay attention to what you like and what you don’t. You might discover a whole new style you never thought you’d rock!

Don’t Compare And Despair

I know it’s tempting to scroll through Instagram and feel like you’re the only one wearing sweats and Birks on the regular, but let’s be real, everyone has those days! Always remember that social media is a highlight reel, not real life. Focus on what makes you feel good, not what everyone else is wearing.

Get Inspired, Not Intimidated

Social media can be a great source of inspiration, but can lead to us feeling intimidated or overwhelmed. You don’t have to buy every trendy, or even classic, piece that you see! Focus on building a wardrobe that you love and that works for your life. Half the influencers and bloggers you see posting their hauls and try-ons are returning everything anyway, even the stuff they say they love. The goal is to have a wardrobe you love, not get sucked in to over-consumption.

So next time you’re doom-scrolling through your feed, take a moment to really look at what you’re drawn to, style-wise. We use our phones for everything from ordering toilet paper, to driving directions, to takeout, why not use social media to find your personal style?
