How To Start A Morning Routine That Works For You
Let’s talk about morning routines…
Are you ready to conquer your mornings and kickstart your day with a blast of energy? Are you ready to start your day with wellness in mind? Well if you’re like ready-ready, are you at least ready to read about it? As we gracefully glide through our 40s and beyond, establishing a morning routine that caters to our specific needs can really do wonders for our overall well-being. So let’s get to it!
Rise And Shine
Rise and shine, bestie! While the early bird catches the worm, you just can’t go from night owl to worm guzzling early bird. You gotta find a waking time that suits your body clock. Start gradually, slow and steady baby! Try setting your alarm 15-20 minutes earlier than usual, and as you adjust to it, rinse and repeat until you get to a nice early wake time. The goal is to feel rejuvenated in the morning, not rushed.
Hydrate For Happiness
Your body needs hydration after a solid sleep. Kickstart your morning with a big glass or even a tumbler of water. You gotta hydrate before you caffeinate. I fill my 40 ounce Stanley before bed, place it on my bedside table, and then drink as much of it as I can when I wake up. Does that set me up to be peeing every 10 minutes all day? Yup, but that’s the price we pay.
Move Your Body
Exercise doesn’t always need to be an intense gym session. A simple morning stretch routine or a leisurely walk can work wonders for your body and mind. And put on your favorite Spotify mix or your current podcast obsession while you move, it’s a great way to boost your mood.
Mindfullness And Meditation
Take a moment to ground yourself through meditation or mindfulness exercises. Settle into a comfortable position, focus on your breath, and allow yourself to be present in the moment. If you start your day with a little mediation you’ll be much better equipped to handle whatever stress comes your way.
Nourish With A Nutrient Rich Breakfast
Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. Opt for a balanced meal that fuels you – think whole grains, protein, healthy fats, and a rainbow of fruits and vegetables. Smoothies, overnight oats, and veggie omelets are my personal picks.
Tech Detox For Inner Peace
Consider a tech-free zone during your morning routine, or at least a tech-delayed zone. Resist the urge to check emails and social media right after waking up. Allow yourself to ease into the day without the distractions of screens. My reiki lady suggested I not look at my phone until I get some sunshine, and since I wake up at 5am and actual sunshine is not an option, I fake it.
Prioritize Self-Care
Dedicate some time to self-care each morning. Whether is skincare, journaling, reading, or even just sitting in silence and really enjoying your coffee or tea, pamper yourself a little before diving into the day’s responsibilities.
Set Intentions And Gratitude
I just want to say I know how woo-woo this sounds and I don’t care. Take some time to set positive intentions for the day ahead. Express gratitude for the things that bring joy and fulfillment into your life. A gratitude journal or mental note can do wonders for your mindset.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach for morning routines. These are just a few ideas, some may work for you, some may not; and you may already have your own morning routine that works wonders for you (and I would love to hear about your morning routine btw). By incorporating wellness practices that align with your needs and aspirations, you’re paving the way for a more vibrant, fulfilling life.
So here’s to mornings filled with purpose, wellness, and maybe even a touch of magic!
