Holiday Self-Care: 10 Festive Ways To Prioritize Yourself This Year

December 14, 2023Heather

Let’s talk about holiday self-care…

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but sometimes the jolly can get a little lost because we are BUSY right now, henny. The holiday season can be a whirlwind of joy, excitement, sadness, stress, and basically every other emotion. And as women, we often find ourselves putting others first, even at our own peril (I get that this sounds very dramatic, but this is important). But this festive season, let’s make our own self-care a priority. And let’s embrace the spirit and try some holiday self-care!

Starbucks And Chill

Who else loves the Starbucks holiday menu? Or any festive coffee drink? Whether you treat yourself by grabbing a some Starbucks or making a holiday themed coffee at home, lean into it. Play holiday music, cuddle up and watch Elf (or whatever your favorite holiday movie is), and savor every sip.

Merry Mindfulness

The antidote for the holiday rush? Mindfulness. Take a breather! Whether it’s through meditation, deep breathing, or simply a few moments of quiet reflection, centering yourself can work wonders. If you’re a Peloton app user, Aditi Shah has a great ten minute Holiday Meditation class.

Seasonal Stroll

Step outside for a refreshing winter walk and soak in the beauty of holiday decorations. Admire twinkle lights, festive wreaths, and crisp cold air. If a solo stroll in nature isn’t your thing, most cities/towns/chambers of commerce have a specific, planned holiday stroll with events like tree lighting, carolers, pop-up shops, and festive drinks and bites if you’d like to grab a couple friends and hit the town.

Holiday Pampering

Your local salon or spa probably has some treatments with festive flair like chocolate, cranberry, ginger, peppermint, pumpkin, and vanilla you can indulge in. Or you can do a DIY spa day with a hot cocoa face mask, candy cane sugar scrub, or a berry bath bomb. No reason you can’t indulge in some holiday scents while you soak.

Joyful Journaling

Grab a beautiful holiday-themed journal and jot down your thoughts, gratitude, or your favorite moments of the season. Reflecting on the positive can help uplift your spirits and bring a sense of fulfillment. And heck, if you want to write down a few of your grievances for Festivus, I’ll allow it.

Decorate Your Space

Spruce up your surroundings with a some holiday decor that brings you joy. Whether it’s twinkling lights, a festive wreath, or your favorite ornament, create a space that feels merry or bright.

Bake And Bond

Spend some time in the kitchen baking holiday treats. Whip up your favorite cookies, put together a gingerbread house (store-bought is fine), or bake any decadent dessert of your choosing. Baking not only fills your house with deliciously festive (or festively delicious) scents, but it can also be a therapeutic and rewarding activity. If is not a therapeutic or rewarding activity for you, don’t do it.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlewomen

Don’t forget to rest, bestie. Rest is the ultimate act of self-care, so settle down for a long winters nap. Throw on your holiday jammies and relax guilt-free. Sometimes the best gift we can give ourselves is a friggin break.

Spread Kindness And Cheer

Engage in acts of kindness. Volunteering, donating, complimenting a stranger, over tipping; you never know what little act of kindness will be the bright spot in someone’s holiday.

Work It Out

When I tell you there are hundreds of holiday themed workout classes floating around the interwebs. For my fellow Peloton users, simply searching “holiday” brings up tons up holiday themed classes in cycling, yoga, strength training, running, walking, and even stretching and some classes are only fifteen minutes. Give it a go!

Remember, self-care isn’t just about the physical; it’s about nourishing your mind, body, and spirit. So this holiday season gift yourself the time and attention you deserve. Embrace these simple acts of self-care, sprinkle in a little holiday magic, and watch yourself sparkle and shine into the New Year.
