Cultivating Gratitude: A Joyful Journey From Reflection To New Years Intentions
Let’s talk about gratitude…
As the holiday season whirls around us and we cozy up with our mugs of peppermint mocha, twinkling lights, and the promise of a new year poking around the corner, it’s the perfect time to take a breather. I don’t know if I just get a little sentimental around the holidays, but I want to wrap myself in the warmth of gratitude and reflect on the past year.
Gratitude isn’t just a trendy buzzword, it can actually improve our day to day lives. Seriously, it’s science! Research has shown that practicing gratitude can lead to improved well-being, better relationships, and even better sleep. Who knew a simple “thank you” could pack such a wallop?
So let’s get into it!
Reflecting On The Rollercoaster Year
Before we get into the “thank a millions” and such, let’s reflect on the past year. The highs, the lows, and all the loop-de-loops that make you scream “I wanna get off this ride”…just me?
Ask yourself:
- What were the standout moments that made me smile from ear to ear?
- What were the challenges that made me want to pull out my hair?
- What lessons did I learn that I want to carry forward?
Remember, reflection is’t about dwelling on the negatives, it’s about appreciating the growth, the resilience, and the inner strength that got you through.
Practical Gratitude
And now for a little gratitude homework. Each day jot down three things you’re grateful for. It could be something as simple as the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, that work friend who makes you laugh, how beautiful your tree looks, your fave cozy blanket, the possibilities are endless! And gratitude doesn’t stop for bad days. Even when we’re going through it, actually especially when we’re going through it, a little gratitude goes a long way.
Setting Intentions For A Sparkling New Year
Now let’s talk about intentions (not resolutions). Intentions are like the roadmaps to our future selves. Close your eyes (unless you’re driving or operating heavy machinery, safety first) and envision the person you want to be in the coming year.
Ask yourself:
- What qualities do I want to embody?
- What habits do I want to cultivate?
- How do I want to contribute to my community or the world?
- What do I want to watch? Just kidding, kinda.
Embracing The Adventure Ahead
As we gear up to bid adieu to this whirlwind year, let’s welcome the new one with open arms and hearts full of gratitude. This upcoming year we’re going to live with abandon! We’re going to dance like nobody is watching! We’re going to live, laugh, love! We are going to strike a pose, there’s nothing to it! We are going to embrace everything that comes with a fresh start, uncertainty and all.
Remember, gratitude isn’t a one-time gig; it’s a daily celebration of the little joys that make life sparkle.
