I Think You Should Give Blue Light Glasses A Try

October 11, 2021Heather

Blue light (glasses) special!

Like a lot of people, I spend a good deal of time looking at screens. On and off at work all day, watching Netflix and YouTube clips of celebrities falling all night, reading the kindle version of US Weekly, you get the idea. Never before in the history of man have eyeballs spent so much time looking at screens, and it might not be all that great for us! It’s a pretty under-researched topic, but theres some evidence to suggest all that screen time might have a negative effect on us.

Digital screens have become such a big part of our lives, we can’t just shut them off…imagine telling a boss you need to take a break from your computer? Ha. Since most of us would get fired if we quit computers, I suggest giving blue light glasses a try. I can’t think of a great sentence to transition into my list, so here are some of the reasons I wear blue light blocking glasses.

Better Sleep

Digital screens emit blue light, and that blue light can cause all sorts of problems, and not just for our peepers. Did you know that prolonged exposure to blue light can mess with with your circadian rhythm? And circadian rhythm is the natural internal process that regulates the wake sleep cycle and it is not “cincadian rhythm” which I what I’ve been calling it for years. As someone who has trouble sleeping, I’m willing to try almost anything to get a decent 6 hours (except giving up caffeine and quitting screen time all together).

They’re Cute

There are so many cute options for blue light glasses. Frame shapes, colors, materials, and you can get them EVERYWHERE now! Amazon, Target, Forever 21, Marshalls and TJ Maxx, and my faves online, Quay. I know Dorothy Parker famously said, “men seldom make passes at women who wear glasses”, but she never saw how cute I look in mine.

They’re Affordable

Remember when I said blue light glasses are everywhere now? Well that means they’re at every price point

Eye Strain

Blue light can make it tough to focus on the screen and what you’re reading, leading to eye strain. Blue light blocking glasses can increase the contrast on your screen, alleviating eye strain.

Headaches

Eye strain can lead to headaches, decreased eye strain means decreased headaches. However blue light glasses will do absolutely nothing for all the other causes of your headaches.

They Make Me Look Smart

Do I look a little smarter when wear glasses? Indubitably! Looking smarter than I actually am, what could possible go wrong?
