7 Reasons You Have A Closet Full Of Clothes And Nothing To Wear
We’ve all been there before, a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. It’s truly frustrating to know you have spent money on clothes only to have them betray you every time you try to get dressed. Well it’s not just dumb luck or a mystery of the universe that you don’t have anything to wear, there are REASONS. Yes, legit reasons you have nothing to wear, so lets get to them.
You Don’t Have Enough Basics
Is your wardrobe overflowing with bold statement pieces? Or as my friend Mariann says “all sizzle, no steak”? You need some simpler pieces to anchor the bold ones. Pairing classic, effortless pieces of clothing with your more flashy pieces make them a million times more wearable. This is the true reason everyone needs a capsule wardrobe.
You’re A Bad Shopper
I hate to be the one to break this to you, but you might be a bad shopper. Maybe you only shop sales (I’m not saying you shouldn’t shop sales, I am a bargain queen), or have no regard for how a piece of clothing will work with your current wardrobe, but if you’re all over the place shopping, your wardrobe is not going to be in harmony. It’s ok, I still love you.
You Have Too Much
I feel personally attacked by this one, but it’s true! Opening up your closet and being completely overwhelmed is a sure sign you have too much stuff. Luckily this is an easy fix; purge baby, purge.
You Don’t Know Your Personal Style
Is your style all over the place? Mine sometimes is! If I asked you to define your style would you be able to do it? I think mine is preppy urban maximalist, which is why when I buy something boho it just doesn’t work for me, or with anything I already have. Define your style and let it be your guide.
Your Clothes Don’t Fit
If your clothes don’t fit, you don’t have anything to wear. Like, no duh, but for some reason we have a hard time letting go of clothes that don’t fit us anymore. Channel your inner Marie Kondo, thank the clothes for the joy they brought to your life, and release them into the wild…and by that I mean donate, sell, or consign them.
Your Wardrobe Doesn’t Fit Your Lifestlye
You know what looks I absolutely love? Sexy secretary; polished pencil skirts and cardigans, and corporate bad ass; bold suits, wide leg trousers. You know how often I wear those looks? Never. My job and lifestyle are not conducive to those looks, so as much as I love them, they are not part of my rotation. Jeans, boiler suits, and jumpsuits are what’s compatible with my day to day (sad trombone noise).
You’re Uninspired
I’ve talked about being in a fashion rut before, it’s not fun! Our mental and emotional states have an impact on how we dress, and how we dress has an impact on our mental and emotional states, it’s vicious chicken and the egg situation. I bet after the past year plus a lot of us are uninspired! Well spring is here, and we can finally see a little light at the end of the tunnel, so let’s bust that nut (that sounds filthy). Make it a point to wear something you love this week, and boost your serotonin any way you can.
