Who Says You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks? 5 Easy Makeup Tips For Women Over 40
Let’s talk about makeup tips for women over 40…
As we age, our skin changes, and so should our makeup routine. Imagine if you were still using glitter eyeshadow on your brow bone?! And if your makeup routine hasn’t changed, consider this a sign from the universe to switch it up a little. With a couple little tweaks the right products, you can look like a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed like a gal of thirty! I’m sure there are a million tips, hacks, tricks, whatever out there, but here are my picks for the easiest makeup tips for us women over 40.
Use A Lightweight Foundation
Heavy foundation can settle into fine lines and wrinkles, making them look more noticeable, which is the exact opposite of the point of makeup. Opt for a lightweight foundation or tinted moisturizer to keep your coverage light and natural. Apply it with a damp brush or beauty blender for a flawless finish.
Fill In Your Brows
As we age, our eyebrows can become sparse and thin. When I was a kid my nana told me I was lucky Brooke Shields came along and made thick eyebrows fashionable, now they trail off and disappear at the halfway mark! Filling our brows in with a brow pencil or powder is a cheap, quick, and easy way to appear more youthful. Choose a shade that matches your natural brow color and use light, feathery strokes to create a natural-looking shape.
Use Cream Blush
In my twenties and thirties I was a greasy girl, no cream products for me because they’d slide off my face before lunch. Now that I’m firmly in my 40s my skin is a dryer, and cream blush is my best friend. Cream blush gives you a youthful, dewy glow. And it’s so easy to apply! Just use your (clean) fingers to apply a little to your apples and blend up towards your temples.
Try A Brightening Concealer
Dark circles can make you look tired and older, or like a sickly Victorian woman suffering from consumption (just me?). Use a brightening concealer to counteract the darkness and brighten up your under-eye area, and therefore brightening up your whole face.
Go For A Soft, Natural Look
At this stage of my life, less is more when it comes to makeup. I swear using a light(er) hand when applying makeup makes me look younger and healthier than when I really pile it on. Heavy foundation and contouring really brings my whole face down. If you’ve been applying with a heavy hand, try a little lighter and see if you love results.
See? Makeup tips for women over 40 don’t need to be complicated! These tips will have you looking and feeling better, spending less time beating your mug (do the kids still say that?), and less time taking your makeup off at the end of the day. It’s a win/win/win, give em a try!
