Easy Ways To Lower The Calories In Your Starbucks Coffee
I’ve been trying to drink less of my calories (or at least save the calories I drink for booze). It’s easy enough to keep it low cal when I make my coffee at home, but when treat myself to Starbucks? It’s a lot easier to find myself sipping on a calorie bomb. Well at least it was a lot easier. I’ve learned a few little tricks that let me enjoy some of my favorite holiday flavors, without consuming the same amount of calories of a cheeseburger.
Less Creamer
Instead of a latte, try a regular iced coffee/espresso with a splash of nonfat or almond milk. A grande latte uses about twelve ounces of milk, a splash uses, well, a splash.
Skip The Whipped Cream
I know, I know – it’s like so cute when you get a little whipped cream on your nose when you take a sip, and a whipped cream topped coffee is perfect for the grid; but if you’re calorie conscious, skip the whipped cream.
Switch Up The Syrups
This is where we get to play mad scientist. The only sugar free syrup, at least as of right now (come on, Starbucks), we can get is vanilla, so we’re playing around with vanilla syrup! Take my beloved Iced Sugar Cookie Latte. It uses sugar cookie syrup (duh), so I’ll cut the sugar cookie syrup with some vanilla. If my drink has six pumps of sugar cookie syrup, I’ll use two or three pumps of sugar free vanilla, and two or three pumps of sugar cookie.
Reduce The Sauces
There is no sugar free option when it comes to sauces, so if you can, reduce the amount in your coffee. For instance, a grande Caramel Brûlée Latte has four pumps of creme brûlée sauce at about 100 calories. Try cutting the sauce in half (leaving it out is also an option but I don’t want to steal your joy).
To Cold Foam Or Not To Cold Foam
Listen, if cold foam sparks joy*, who am I to tell you to skip it? And Starbucks uses a blend of nonfat milk and heavy cream (and syrup) so it could be a lot worse.
*If any of the drinks as Starbucks makes them brings you joy, just drink it as it. We’re hurling though time and space on a floating blue marble, what does any of it matter?
