7 Easy Packing Tips For Your Next Trip

October 15, 2022Heather

Traveling is great, packing…not so much! I’m going to level with you, I’ve been a crappy packer for most of my adult life, but I think I FINALLY got it together. Some of these tips I’ve learned from my work as a stylist, some from life experiences, and some just came to me like a dream (I’m being dramatic). Here are seven of the best packing trips I’ve picked up during my forty two trips around the sun…

Use Packing Cubes

Of all the packing tips, this is hands down the best packing tip I can give you. You don’t even need to read the rest of this post (please read it and like ten more). Nothing has been a bigger packing help than packing cubes. I’m not a scientist, but they somehow double the amount of space you have in your suitcase.

Pick A Color Palette

My three style words are extra, extra, extra; so I get how hard it is to settle on a color palette, but it will make packing so much either. Usually I’ll decide if I want my dominant neutral to be black, brown, or navy, and then I’ll go from there.

Bundle Your Outfits

Have you ever opened up your suitcase only to find a pair of pants that go with absolutely nothing? Or a top that doesn’t seem to have a place? Or you brought a killer dress but not the right bra to go with it? Well if you bundle your outfits together when you’re packing it will never happen again.

Roll Your Clothes

At some point in packing tips folklore, someone decided to tell people to roll their clothes because it keeps them less wrinkled than folding. I’m not going to tell you that rolling your clothes makes them less wrinkled, because it doesn’t. Honestly I think it makes my clothes even more wrinkled than folding, BUT your clothes do take up less space (especially when used with packing cubes). So roll your clothes and bring a travel steamer (I use this one).

Use All The Space

Make the most of all your space! Socks, jewelry, scarves can be placed in shoes, t-shirts stuffed in hats – if there’s an empty space, fill it up!

Review What You’ve Packed

Before you zip up that suitcase, go through everything and see if there’s anything you can do without. Every time I do a final review of what I’ve packed I’ve been able to find, and remove, things I don’t really need.

Bring An Empty Bag

I’m a sucker for a souvenir t-shirt, sue me! I’m also a sucker for a souvenir water bottle, a souvenir travel mug, souvenir fudge…you get the idea. Since I always pick up a few treats when I’m traveling I like to bring an empty tote bag in my suitcase to carry all my treasures. This isn’t a packing tip for everyone, but it’s a packing tip for shoppers like me.
